Douglas Swanson - The Right Chemistry
“An independent thought process and a patient approach”
Doug Swanson
Douglas Swanson has over 25 years of experience as a bond fund manager.
He joined JP Morgan in 1983 and currently is responsible for establishing the daily tactical decision making for
all taxable bond funds at the firm. During his extensive career, Doug has consistently stood out among his peer
group of bond managers. Morningstar attributes his success to an independent thought process and patient approach.
Doug relies upon his team to supply him with deep research on each security, allowing him to maintain a broadly
diversified collection of bonds in his portfolio. Doug considers himself to be a "buy and hold" investor,
which is evidenced by his fund's rock-bottom turnover rate. He understands mortgage-backed securities and
has held them in this fund since it’s inception in 1982. His knowledge in this area gives him a true edge.
In fact, he was able to avoid the sub-prime bond mess because they did not like the credit profile and valuations
on the sub-prime debt. Instead, his team favored investing in prime non-agency mortgages.
Doug is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in chemistry.
He also holds a degree in management from the Sloan School, also at MIT. We believe Doug has the right chemistry mix of intelligence,
attitude and experience to continue to build upon his successful record of success.
