What assets do I need to open an R Account?
You can open an R Account and invest tax-deferred retirement assets such as IRAs or 401(k)s - and also taxable investment assets such as Mutual Funds, stocks and bonds, savings accounts and Certificates of Deposit.
Other qualified assets such as a 403(b) or a 457(b) employer-sponsored retirement plan also qualify.

What if I don’t know if I have a qualifying IRA or 401(k)?
If in a past job you paid part of your wage or salary to a retirement plan that your employer also added to - quite likely it was a 401(k) plan or similar. You can contact your former employer and ask for details.
If you have what might be a qualifying IRA account, you can fax a copy to us and we will let you know if these assets can be transferred into your R Account.
