Hakan Castegren – A Proven Track record
Morningstar International Stock Manager of the Year 2007
Hakan Castegren
Hakan Castegren has managed the Harbor International
Fund since since its inception in 1987.
He is a seasoned manager with a strong team of analysts
supporting his highly disciplined strategy of picking bargain blue chips priced
with strong market shares or high barriers to entry. Castegren and his team are loyal
to their picks, typically keeping stocks for years and maintaining an annual turnover
rate of below 20 percent.
Hakan Castegren was Morningstar's 2007 International
Stock Manager of the Year..
Morningstar analyst William Samuel Rocco reported
"Castegren, who also received the award in 1996, has used a slow-moving, blue-chip
value strategy throughout his 20-year tenure. Although his willingness to delve into
unpopular stocks and sectors has sometimes led to short-term underperformance,
Castegren has generally executed his discipline deftly, as this foreign large-value
fund's topnotch three-, five-, and 10-year gains attest.”.
The fact that Castegren won the award for a second time,
10 years after winning it the first time, combined with the fact that he has been at
the helm longer than any other foreign large-value manager, and is the third longest-serving
foreign large-cap manager overall reveals that he has fulfilled a key Money Masters’
selection criterion – a proven track record of 10-years or more.
Castegren has more than $1 million of his own money invested in the fund
